Welcome Note…
Thank you for visiting my Medium Blog, my name is Peta. Unusual first name right? In short… it’s half my Dad’s name and half my Mom’s name pronounced Pet-Uh. Not Pita.
I grew up in San Francisco (5th Generation), my first modem was a 14bps with my shining new Mac Performa 6116CD that cost about $2900. If you looked at the specs, you would probably think how the hell did we survive without wireless. Trust me it was possible but painful.
My passion has always been writing and storytelling. Currently I work as a Social Media consultant, my passions are collecting toys, gaming, cartoons, LEGO and traveling.
Where does the journalist come in? Glad you asked. I officially started when I was 17, but my title was “NRI writing Intern” for Indolink.com one of the first Online publications for the South Asian Community. NRI was Non-Resident Indian, which tackled stories regarding South Asians North America.
New Media as they called it, opened a world where anyone could become a writer (just like anyone could become a blogger on Medium) I’m proud I grew up in that era and saw it evolved immensely.
I figured I would write about growing up in this era and how I became an accidental journalist who paid my dues. I have lots of stories to share, if you grew up listening to Urban Desi music or Asian Underground artists, you’re in for a treat. If you went to Desi Parties in the Bay Area from 1999 to 2008, I was probably the photographer you avoided.
Sit back and enjoy…
